
Biography
Klass is a Haitian konpa band formed in 2012 by the renowned drummer, composer, and producer Jean Hérard Richard, popularly known as Richie. After departing from the iconic band Zenglen, Richie sought to create a fresh konpa experience by blending traditional rhythms with a modern, international sound.
The band quickly gained popularity for its dynamic live performances, refined musical arrangements, and the unique, powerful voice of lead singer Pipo Stanis. The original lineup included Richie (drums, band leader), Pipo Stanis (lead vocals), El Pozo (guitar), Nickson Mesidor (bass), and other experienced musicians.
Key Milestones
In 2013, Klass released their debut album Fè’l Vini Avan, which was an immediate success in Haiti and among the Haitian diaspora. This album established Klass as a prominent force in the modern konpa scene.
Their subsequent albums, Fè’l Ak Tout Kè’w (2016) and Ret Nan Liy Ou (2019), reinforced their position with hit songs that explored themes of love, social issues, and celebration.
In 2024, after a five-year break, Klass returned with My Pain Killer, an album featuring collaborations with major Haitian artists such as Wyclef Jean and Rutshelle Guillaume, reflecting their artistic evolution and openness to new influences.
